Colin Bailey homered and Beau Stough struck out eight batters as Redwood Valley ended a four-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over visiting RRC/WWG Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The Cardinals (1-5) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the second as Jordan Ford doubled to right field and was brought home on a two-run shot by Bailey to deep left.
An error and a walk to open up the top half of the third allowed the Falcons to tie up the score.
Redwood Valley would answer back in the bottom half of the frame as?Chris Verdoes led off with a single, Austin Kretsch doubled to right and Stough was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out.
Verdoes would go on to score on a wild pitch, Kretsch scored on a steal attempt by Stough who would then score on an error to put the Cards up 5-2.
The Falcons would plate a single run in the fourth but the Cards took control in the bottom of the sixth as Jordan Lund and Verdoes both scored to up the lead to 7-3.
RRC/WWG made things interesting in the seventh as they took advantage of a single and an error to put runners on first and second with nobody out.
Tyler Kohout would come up big however with a pair of strikeouts and a flyball out to end the game.
Stough would pick up the victory, allowing just one earned run on two hits, striking out eight, walking eight and hitting three batters in five innings of work.
Kohout picked up the save, allowing just two hits and striking out two in two innings on the hill.
Brady Bierl picked up the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking two in six innings.
Verdoes finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Bailey was 1-for-2 with a HR, walk and two RBI’s and Kretsch was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s.
Stough went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, Ford was 1-for-3 with a double and Lund went 1-for-1 with a run scored.
Dylan Bunting paced the Falcons with a hit and an RBI.
On Tuesday the Cardinals travelled to Jackson Co. Central and gave up seven early runs on the way to a 12-1, five-inning defeat at the hand of the Huskies.
With the loss the Cards drop to 0-3 in SWC play.
JCC pitcher’s only allowed two hits while the Cardinal pitcher’s continued to struggle as Kretsch took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Hester went 1-for-2 with an?RBI?single in the second and Verdoes was 1-for-3.
