  • Hengel leads Cardinal golfers to unbeaten start

  • Balance was the key Monday afternoon at the Pipestone Country Club as the unbeaten Redwood Valley boys golf team held off the host Arrows 159-166.
    After a slow start, Adam Hengel has been on fire of late, earning medalist honors Friday at the Redwood Valley Quadrangular as well as Monday in Pipestone.
    The talented sophomore carded an 18-hole score of 75 on Friday and finished with a one-under 35 on Monday in Pipestone.
    Joe Smith and Alec Koster each finished with 41s, while Mitch Fischer and Derek Bebeau added 42s for a Cardinal unit that improves to 7-0 heading into a key SWC showdown today in Luverne.
    Saturday the Cards captured its own quadrangular by 39 strokes with a 327 team total.
    Along with Hengel’s 75, Bebeau added an 81, Koster an 84, Fischer an 87, Smith an 88 and Thane Widmer a 92.

    The Redwood Valley girls meanwhile made it three straight victories with wins over Springfield and Pipestone Area.
    The Cardinals (4-1) fired a 419?Friday afternoon in a 25 stroke win over Springfield at the Redwood Falls Golf Club.
    Callie Wersal earned medalist honors for the Tigers with her round of 97 but the Cardinals had more balance.
    Julie Anderson once again paved the way with her round of 101.
    Alex Erie finished with a 105, Madison Tholkes a 106 and MacKenzie Manthei added a 107.
    Abby Schmidt carded a 111 and MacKenzie Mace added a 113.
    Monday afternoon the Cardinals fired a 206 against a Pipestone Area squad that had just one girl.
    Schmidt earned medalist honors with a 50, Erie added a 51 and Manthei a 52.
    Anderson and Mace would finished with 53s and Tholkes rounded out the scoring with a 59.
    The?Cardinal girls visit Luverne today in a key SWC showdown.
