  • Organizations donate to local food shelf

When it comes to food shelf donations, every can, box and bag helps.

Yet, what can be of even greater benefit is a cash donation, and the Redwood Area Food Shelf received two cash donations recently which David Mumme, who coordinates food shelf activities, said is going to go a long way in ensuring food is available for those in the area who truly need it.

  •   When it comes to food shelf donations, every can, box and bag helps. Yet, what can be of even greater benefit is a cash donation, and the Redwood Area Food Shelf received two cash donations recently which David Mumme, who coordinates food shelf activities, said is going to go a long way in ensuring food is available for those in the area who truly need it. “Every dollar we receive can mean $3-9 of food through Second Harvest,” said Mumme. Steve Whittet, of Masonic Antiquity Lodge 91 of Red-wood Falls, presented a check for $750 to Mumme Tuesday morning. He said funds were collected from local Masons, and those dollars were matched by Minnesota Masonic Charities. In a letter from Minnesota Masonic Charities, Eric Neetenbeck, organization president and CEO, wrote, “the members of the antiquity lodge believe in making a difference in their community through the support of community programs.” Earlier that day, Nancy Fasching, a member of the Southwest Initiative Found-ation (SWIF) presented a check for $1,000, which is one of 100 local impact grants SWIF presented to food shelf organizations across the southwest Minne-sota region. “The foundation is privileged to support the work you are doing,”?wrote Fasch-ing in a letter informing the food shelf of its donation. Mumme expressed his appreciation for the funds, which he said are going to be a big help. He also said those involved with the food shelf are very appreciative of the continued support demonstrated by the community as a whole in helping the food shelf to meet its mission of providing for those in need.
