Jumping out to a 34-8 halftime advantage the Redwood Valley boys basketball team rolled to a 73-34 win over GFW in the quarterfinals of Section 3AA-North action Saturday night in Redwood Falls.
The T-Birds (2-24) grabbed an early 5-4 lead but the Cardinals (24-1) would take control in the final 14 minutes of the half, outscoring GFW 30-3 to put the game away after 18 minutes of play.
With the victory, the Cardinals will move on to face fourth-seed BOLD (14-10) in the semifinals Thursday night at 6 p.m. in Granite Falls.
The Warriors trailed by seven at halftime against fifth-seed TMB but would rally for a 53-49 victory.
In an early December match-up, the Cardinals thumped BOLD 77-37.
BOLD has played better of late, shocking Montevideo 59-57 in mid-February.  In its past four games they’re 2-2 with losses to ACGC and Morris Area/CA.
All of the top four seeds in both the North and South halves of the Section 3AA bracket have advanced.
Montevideo (21-5) will have an interesting match-up with Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (21-6) in the other North semifinal.
In the South, top seed Worthington will face Luverne and second seed Fairmont will play against?Windom Area.
If the Cardinals can survive against BOLD they would play again on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on the campus of SMSU in Marshall.
Saturday night the Cardinals had 10 players reach the scoring column in the win over GFW.
Mike Busack led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Beau Stough was a brute in the paint early on and would finish with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Thane Widmer scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench.
Jordan Ford added 10 points and Mitch Fischer had five points, three rebounds and three assists.
RJ?Juell had six points and two assists and Adam Hengel added six poitns, three rebounds and two assists.
The Cardinals shot 52 percent from the floor but were just 3-of-16 from downtown.
