  •   The Redwood County Big Buddies program will host the second annual Wii Olympics Fundraiser on Sunday, March 25, from 1-5 p.m. at the Redwood Area Community Center. Last year, 12 teams competed in the first annual Wii Olympics fundraiser for the Redwood County Big Buddies program. Those 12 teams raised almost $3,500 to help Big Buddies pay for mentor training, background checks, and activities with local kids. “The money all stays local,”?said organizer Leslie Myrom. This year, Myrom is hoping for even more teams, and even more fun. The five-person teams are urged to find sponsors to pledge funds for the organization, which pairs kids in need of a good mentor with adults with time to make a difference in childrens’ lives. The teams use Wii games — donated by a local business, played on TV sets also donated by another local business — to simulate a variety of games. Events this year include archery, basketball, bowling, golf, and table tennis. According to Myrom, the youngest player last year was four years old, while the oldest was in her 60s. “We had one couple that had never played Wii, but after the Olympics they went out and bought one. They’ve been practicing all year, and gotten quite good.” The winning three teams will receive etched glass medals donated by Deano Hartwig of Morton.
