  • Cardinal boys cruise into postseason

  • The Redwood Valley boys basketball team capped off a perfect 12-0 run in non-conference play with a 70-44 pasting of host Tracy/Milroy-Balaton Monday night in Tracy.
    With the win the Cardinals - ranked fifth in the lastest Class A poll - improved to 23-1 overall and in the past two seasons have gone 23-1 in non-conference action.
    Despite three early fouls by standout Mike Busack the Cardinals pulled away midway through the first half and would lead 35-24 at the break.
    A 19-0 run in the second half would put the game away as the Cardinals  rolled to a 26 point margin of victory.
    Busack would finish with 29 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Alec Koster added 20 points, five rebounds and three assists.
    Bigman Beau Stough finished with 11 points and seven rebounds and Adam Hengel went a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor on the way to seven points and two rebounds.                                                                        Now the fun begins for the Cardinals as they begin postseason play on Saturday with Section 3AA-North quarterfinal action.
    The top-seeded Cards will host eighth-seed GFW (2-22) on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
    In other quarterfinal action, second-seed Montevideo (18-5) will host LPQV (3-20), third-seed LCWM (20-6) will host YME (8-13) and fourth-seed ?BOLD (13-9) will face TMB?(11-12) in the four-five match-up.
    Following a 2-8 start, the BOLD?Warriors - a potential second round match-up for the Cards - have won 11-of-14, including a recent 59-57 win at Montevideo.

    Scoring 51 first half points the Redwood Valley boys basketball team cruised to an 83-51 win over host New Ulm Friday night in a non-conference match-up.
    Busack could not be stopped as he worked the Eagles (5-18) for 35 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, four blocked shots and three steals.
    He shot 12-of-18 from the floor and hit 6-of-10 from downtown.
    Koster continued to play well, hitting 8-of-12 from the floor on the way to 23 points, five steals and two assists.
    Stough also had a solid night going 5-of-7 from the floor on the way to 13 points, six rebounds and two assists.
    The Cardinals shot a strong 53 percent (30-of-57) from the floor,  hit 12-of-23 from downtown and hit 11-of-13 charity stripe.
