On Feb. 10, Matt and Sara Beavers became the new owners of Brighter Homes Store in Redwood Falls. “I did many many installation jobs for (former owner) Jim Edwards on the side, working nights and evenings,” said Matt. Through installing products, Beavers began forming a more ambitious idea. “Sara and I talked, and thought it would be nice to own the store someday,” said Matt. Most of Brighter Homes Store’s business is supplying flooring of various types, including hardwoods and carpeting. “If you can’t find a flooring option here, it probably doesn’t exist,” said Matt. In addition, Brighter Homes Store features wallpaper, carpets and rugs, cabinets, countertops, and window treatments. Matt’s experience was mostly in other Brighter Homes Stores’ other areas, so he brought in Elaine Malecha to supervise the paint department. “Elaine is ‘The Paint Lady’ in town, so we knew she would be a good fit for here,” Matt said. “We’re going to try to keep everything the same as much as possible.” “My mom and dad own Oberloh and Associates, so we knew we’d be in town,” said Sara, “and we thought we could make it work.” Many of Brighter Homes Store’s customers are churches and bigger businesses, with contractors responsible for buying commercial-grade products. However, individuals make up a large percentage of the customers as well. The Beavers hope to have an open house in April.
