  • Capping off the regular season in style, the Redwood Valley girls gymnastics team dominated visiting Marshall 126.325-106.525 Thursday night in a SWC dual at the RACC.
It was the highest team score of the season for a Cardinal unit that has seen its score rise from 110 early in the season to a remarkable 16 points higher heading into Sections.
“It’s been so much fun coaching these girls this season,” Head Coach Dean Wilson said, “They’ve worked so hard to put in new moves and get better... I’m really proud of them.”
The junior duo of Ashley Bunting and Abby Schmidt put on a show as both girls recorded personal bests in finishing one-two respectively in the All-Around.
Bunting scored a 35.4, winning the vault (9.275), bars (8.275), floor (9.0) and finishing second on the beam (8.85).
Schmidt meanwhile racked up a 34.65 in the All-Around by winning the beam (8.9) and finishing second on vault (8.8), bars (8.25) and floor (8.7).
“Ashley and Abby have been great all season long,” Wilson said, “It’s nice to see them peaking as we head into the Section Meet on Saturday.”
Kendra Goblirsch also recorded a personal best in the All-Around with her third place score of 29.7.
She was third on both beam (6.95) and bars (6.65) and fourth on vault (8.2) and floor (7.9).
Irene Anderson scored a personal best of 8.475 to place third on vault and added a 7.4 on floor to finish with a 25.075 in the All-Around.
Jenna Grannes pitched in with a 6.85 on floor, Bhre Heimer had a 6.45 on beam and Sam Osborne scored a 7.85 on vault.
The Cardinals will now gear up for the Section 3A Meet Saturday (Feb. 18) in Worthington.
Jackson Co. Central is the heavy favorite followed by host Worthington.
