  • Winless New Ulm provided much needed relief for the Redwood Valley girls basketball team, as it ended a five-game losing streak with a 69-57 win over the Eagles Tuesday night at the RVHS gymnasium.
The Cardinals (8-8) were in the midst of a tough stretch of games that had seen them lose by an average of 20 points per game without the services of senior Liz Smith.
Smith was back in the line-up Tuesday night, however, and provided a spark scoring 21 points to go along with four rebounds.
Steph Jensen continued her strong play with a game-high 22 points, four rebounds and an assist.
Sam Felt added 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists, and Victoria Quast had nine points and nine rebounds as she just missed out on a double-double.
Julia Busiahn pitched in with three points, four rebounds and two assists, Janessa Read had two points and three rebounds and Makenzie Mace had two points and two rebounds.
Katie Ellingworth had four rebounds and an assist.
