  • Luverne gymnasts edge Redwood Valley

  • By the slimmest of margins the Luverne girls gymnastics team edged Redwood Valley 119-7-119.625 Tues-day night in a SWC dual held at the Redwood Area Community Center.
    Ashley Bunting (33.6) and Abby Schmidt (32.0) finished one-two respectively in the All-Around, but it was not enough as the visiting Cardinals held on for a SWC road win.
    “It’s frustrating, because that’s the second time this year we’ve lost like that,”?Coach Dean Wilson said. “I’m happy with the progress the girls have made so far, and we’re starting to see those results during competition.”
    Bunting was first on vault (9.2) and floor (8.9) and finished second on both bars (7.6) and beam (7.9).
    Schmidt was first on beam (8.275) and bars (7.85) and added an 8.725 on vault and a 7.15 on floor.
    Kendra Goblirsch added a 7.95 on vault and a 7.3 on floor, and Jenna Grannes had a nice night on floor finishing with a 7.55.
    Friday night the Cardinals traveled to Pipestone Area and scored a season-high 120.925 in a three point loss to the Arrows.
    Bunting had a strong performance as she won the All-Around with a 34.65.
    She was first on all four events scoring a 9.175 on vault, an 8.325 on bars, an 8.35 on beam and an 8.8 on floor.
    Schmidt was second in the All-Around with a 33.0.
    She was second on bars (7.85) and beam (8.0), second on floor (8.6) and added an 8.55 on vault.
    Goblirsch had an 8.25 on vault and a 7.35 on floor to finish with a 27.525 in the All-Around.
    Sam Osborne scored a 7.8 on vault, and Bhre Heimer had a 6.45 on beam.
    The Cardinals also took part in the Snowflake Invitational Saturday in Jackson scoring a 115.35.
    Bunting finished with a 32.4 in the All-Around, and Schmidt added a 31.75.
