  • In the narrowest of margins, the Benson Braves edged Redwood Valley 118.425-118.375 in a non-conference gymnastics meet Tuesday night at the RACC.
Abby?Schmidt returned to the line-up and provided a spark for Head Coach Dean Wilson’s girls as they produced their best scoring results of the season.
Ashley Bunting had a big night winning three of the four events on the way to the All-Around title.
She was first on vault (9.0), beam (8.45), floor (8.725) and finished second on bars (7.65) to rack up a 33.85.
Schmidt was first on bars (7.7), second on vault (8.7) and third on beam (7.8) and floor (8.075) to place second in the All-Around with a 32.275 total.
“It was a fun night,” Wilson said, “I thought it was going to be close heading in and that proved to be very true.”
Kendra Goblirsch was fifth on vault (8.5) on the way to a 27.125 in the All-Around and Irene Anderson added an 8.0 on vault to earn a 24.0.
Bhre Heimer pitched in with a 6.55 on beam, Jenna Grannes had a 3.9 on bars and Sam Osborne scored a 7.75 on vault.
“I thought we vaulted well and stayed on the beam better than we have,” Wilson said, “The girls did a nice job overall and we’ll get back into the gym now and continue to try and improve with each meet.”
