Outscoring Redwood Valley 4-1 in the second period, the Morris/Benson Area Storm held off the Cardinals 7-4 Tuesday night in a SWC match-up at the Redwood Area civic arena.
The Storm outshot the Cardinals (1-11) 22-3 in the first period but still led just 1-0 after 17 minutes of action.
Morris/Benson Area would then take control with a pair of goals just 1:30 into the second period to lead 3-0.
Colin Bailey would keep things interesting with a short-handed goal moments later, but the Storm would counter with two more quick goals to lead 5-1 just seven minutes into the period.
Jordan Skeie would keep the Cards within reach on Chris Verdoes’ second assist of the evening to make it 5-2 heading into the third.
Austin Kretsch cut the deficit to two early in the third on a feed from Fabian Ortega, but the Storm would tack on a pair of late insurance goals to put things away.
Jacob Prouty would cap off the scoring with a goal on an assist from Kretsch with two minutes to play.
The Storm would outshoot the Cardinals 47-18 and had five more power play opportunities.
Matt Huot picked up the victory in net with 14 saves, while Parker Revier took the loss despite a 40 save effort.
