The Redwood Valley boys hockey team inched closer to its second straight SWC title with a 7-3 pounding of visiting Marshall/Lakeview Tuesday night in a SWC dual at the Redwood Area Civic Arena.
A nice crowd was on hand to watch the Cardinals     (13-2, 8-1) utterly dominate the Tigers (6-10, 4-4) on the way to their 12th straight victory overall and eighth straight SWC win.
The Cardinals have three more SWC games remaining on the schedule (beginning Friday in Luverne) with a potential SWC championship showdown looming against Morris/Benson Area on Feb. 9 - the Storm are currently   5-1 in conference play but suffered a 6-4 defeat at the hands of the Cardinals earlier in the month.
Tuesday night the Cardinals got on the board first against the Tigers as Brett Amberg found a streaking Nick Schmidt for the first goal of the night and the only tally of the first period.
Eric Hanson - who leads the Cardinals with 15 goals - would score the first of his three goals early in the second period and Chris Verdoes added his second goal of the season minutes later to give the Cards a commanding   3-0 lead at the end of two periods.
In the third, Erik Lyrvall tallied his ninth goal of the season just seconds into the period, Schmidt added his second goal of the night and Hanson found the net two more times to close out the victory.
Goalie John Rebstock improved to 13-2 on the season with 25 saves in net. He currently has 310 saves, a 2.21 goals against average and a ,902 save percentage.
Eric Miller had an assist and leads the Cardinals with 35 points (12 goals, 23 assists).
Amberg finished with three assists and is third in scoring with 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists).
Mike Welch, John Welch, Jordan Skeie, Jacob Skeie and Keenan Hartmann all picked up assists.
