Jim Peris, 71, of Bird Island died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Golden LivingCenter in Olivia.  Funeral Services were Monday  at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bird Island with Pastor Cynthia Hopp officiating.

Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Hector.

James August Peris was born December 2, 1938 on the family farm at Bird Island to August and Clara (Templin) Peris.

He attended school at Bird Island and then helped his family with farming.

Jim served his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1961-1963. After his military service he returned to Bird Island to farm.

He married Gloria Runke June 21, 1975 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cedar Mills. They made their home on a farm south of Bird Island and were blessed with three daughters.

Jim has been employed with Jackpot Junction Casino as a security guard for the past 18 years.

Jim truly appreciated time spent outdoors, especially fishing and hunting for deer or pheasants – which oftentimes consisted of a great percentage of the time simply enjoying coffee and sandwiches. Jim also enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his three daughters: Kimberly (and Paul) Strommer of Olivia, Connie (and Scott) Swenson of Hector and Sara Peris and special friend Justin Anderson of Hector; his five grandchildren: Tyler, Kayla and Alyssa Strommer, Tucker Swenson and Alex Anderson.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gloria in 2008 and his sister Lucille Ady.

Blessed be his memory.
