Brasilian comes to Minnesota to learn about ag

Winter temps in southern Brazil drop down to the 60s, at times, when the sun sets.

When Lucas Iugas came to Minnesota, he saw what a northern climate winter is like.

“This is the first time I?ever saw snow,”?Iugas said.

Iugas, who is from the Sao Paulo area of Brazil is in Red-wood Falls as part of an ex-change program being dev-eloped between Brazil and Redwood Falls in an effort to allow students the chance to experience agriculture in a different part of the world.

Iugas made his way to Redwood Falls after meeting members of the Redwood Valley FFA Chapter on their trip to Brazil this past summer.

“Lucas served as our interpreter when we were in Brazil,”?said Redwood Valley FFA advisor Jeremy Daber-kow. “He spent 10 days with us. At the end of our trip, we talked about adding to the experience.”

That discussion led to what Daberkow called the second phase of a three-phase ex-change program he hopes eventually is going to lead to students from the local ag program making similar trips to Brazil in the future.
