Arden Lemcke, 78, of Morgan died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at New Ulm Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Morgan with Pastor Scott Jakel officiating. 


 

 


Arden Lemcke, 78, of Morgan died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at New Ulm Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Morgan with Pastor Scott Jakel officiating. 

Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010, from 4 until 8 p.m., at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Chapel in Morgan and will continue at the church Thursday for one hour prior to services.

The family requests memorials be made to the Morgan Fire Department and Ambulance Service or St. John Lutheran Church.

Arden Arthur Lemcke, the son of Arthur and Sophie (Gladitsch) Lemcke, was born February 22, 1931 in Vesta Township, Redwood County. 

He attended school in Lamberton, Revere and Wabasso before leaving school at the age of 16 and going to work as a hired man near Westbrook. 

In February 1952, Arden joined the United States Army and served until January 1954, stationed most of the time in England where he was a firefighter and helped build airstrips. Following his honorable discharge, Arden returned home and was employed with Farm Bureau in Wabasso. In Fall 1954, he began working at Harvestland Cooperative in Morgan. On November 2, 1955, Arden married Helen Zimmermann. He worked at Harvestland for 39 years, retiring in February 1993. 

Arden was a member of the Morgan VFW and St. John Lutheran Church. He coached the women’s softball league in Morgan. Arden loved playing cards and joking around; he had a nickname for everyone. He was well remembered for his hearty laugh.

Arden is survived by his wife Helen of Morgan; his children Cheryl (Brian) Garrels of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Sue Lemcke of Morgan, Pam (Mike) Kalvig of Morgan, Teresa (fiance Lynn) Lemcke of Morgan and Randy (Nicole) Lemcke of Morgan. 

Also surviving are his grandchildren Nate and Greg Garrels; James (Kayleigh), Amanda and David Monroe; Tiffany and Mitchell Norlin and Brittany, Jordan, Heather and Torie Lemcke; his great-granddaughter Briana and his sister Sophie Bast of Springfield. 

He was preceded in death by his mother Sophie in 1965; his father Arthur in 1984; his brother Marlowe and sisters Carmen and Lois.
