Gladys Theresa Grewe passed away peacefully at the Sunwood Care Center in Redwood Falls on October 20, 2009. She was 99 years old.

Gladys was born on February 14, 1910. She was the first of nine children and lived with her parents, Thomas M. and Anna C. Attleson on a farm near Verndale. She was baptized on March 27, 1910 in St. Paul’s Church in Verndale. She graduated from Verndale High School in 1929 and from there went on to Minneapolis Business College. When funds ran out for her schooling, she came back to Verndale and worked in the local grocery store.

In 1930 she married Arnold Grewe and they resided on a farm in Bartlett Township near Verndale. They had two children, Shirley and Norma. In 1974, Arnold and Gladys retired and moved to Bertha where she was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Senior Citizens Center, Sewing Club and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She received many awards for her service to the Bertha community residents. She loved playing cards with her many friends in Bertha, and kept her hands busy with beautiful embroidery. Arnold passed away in 1987, and in 2002, Gladys moved to Redwood Falls to be near family.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Arnold; parents Thomas and Anna; brothers Elmer, Thomas, Noel and Arthur; and sisters Evelyn, Louise and Mayme.
